I fitted Lexus seats in my hilux and didn’t even consider about the airbags - just left disconnected. Now about to fit rx8 seats into the defender but now worry about the airbags? They obviously won’t get wired but should they be removed? They shouldn’t go off without an actual current but it’s nagging my brain a bit after seeing people remove them in the seat fitting guide.
I’m guessing I’d need to take to my local garage for them to dispose of the charge unit?

Air bags (pyrotechnics) are technically safe while they're just sitting there, unconnected.
If you're worried about them, why not remove them and detonate them safely, out of harms way, which is what we did, before sending a car to the scrappy, who wouldn't accept a vehicle with intact pyrotechnics.

thanks. If they’re safe sat as is then I won’t mess about with them. Realize it’s probably a stupid question but didn’t want to take any risk with them.

I just cut the connection on mine. I took the full unit out of the seat with the intention of removing the air bag, but it’s integral to the plastic cover on the side of the seat. I just stuck it back in and left it.

I fully removed them mate. I welded them rears of the rails to the mud rails to make it solid. I didn’t want current passing through frame with them in place. You can take the airbag unit out of the cover then replace the cover.
Have you started fitting yours yet? I finished this eve:

I was shittin a brick when I had the unit in my hand trying to work out how to separate it from the plastic cover. I cut the brackets off tonight in preparation for welding the risers on. I just use two lengths of square hollow section. It worked with the Subaru seats I have in at the moment, so we’ll see if they work with these.

hahaha I was too!! Kept telling myself they won’t just go off! Happy with the seats! I already had bulkhead removal bar and one mud riser but the standard seat just didn’t fit me even with headrest adjusted. These seats so much better and have even taken the harshness out of the ride. I bought some balm for them in the hope I can rejuvenate them a bit. Few years back I did my beige 330 seats snd they came up a treat

I’m looking forward to getting them in, but I need to put a new door pillar on the bulkhead first though. The Subaru seats have been great and very comfy, but the foam is disintegrating now. I got the full interior out a RX8 for £100 and it was all binned apart from the front sears.
