Air sound from pump before start up

It's about the injector copper washers as i've already said... if it's that and the leak becomes serious it will start very hard from cold
Thanks what other things can I check myself in the meantime? If it was cracked head would the oil fill with diesel right?

Update: my lovely mechanic has the injector seals booked in for next week, he mentioned a few other things that it could be including the dreaded cracked head but the injector seals are apparently the next less expensive thing to try so fingers crossed ay

Injector seals done, yesterday along with a few other things inc a pace sealed injector harness and hopefully I can wrap this thread up by saying it’s sorted, never a problem starting the engine but it seems to start even better and running a little quieter

Thank you, I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending twinwoods 4x4, they literally sent me everything that was needed and more, even my mechanic was impressed

Hello everyone sorry to revive a thread but this is still happening but when fuel tank gets more empty it’s more evident, I’ve changed the fuel filter housing and had the injector seals done last year, all genuine Land Rover even the fuel filter, one thing I do differently now since a few months is only use BP ultimate diesel, the fuel regulator was changed in 2017 and doesn’t appear to be leaking, my only conclusion now is that maybe the fuel pump itself has just become a bit more noisy now since I have never changed this in the 8 years of ownership? I’ll try and get a video but the Landy itself starts right up from cold just like it should from the factory even below freezing and it also runs beautifully as well. Just this noise from the pump before starting which it never used to do until last year, do any of you think this could be the pump itself?

Hi again. It could be the pump itself or the air bleed valve got dirty with the residual gunk from the old washers but not some real issue as long as it starts and runs well

Does it do it only after it's been left stood for quite a while? It could have a very small leak somewhere that's drawing air in when it's left, and then purging it out ? Or perhaps has something to do with the fuel tank breather if it does it more when the fuel gets lower? Difficult to say really without seeing it

Only just seen this 🤣

Thank you guys it typically only does it after being stood but sometimes even after a short trip, I’ve been filling up with bp ultimate diesel since January (just checked my fuel receipts) I changed the filter twice since then which has made it quite for some time after that but then it’s back to being like it is. Is it possible the bp ultimate is cleaning the fuel system and blocking the filter a tad?

I've actually had the same Defender in twice (for other issues) that whines a bit when the ignition is first put on after a while, but it starts and runs absolutely fine, fuel pressure fine etc. so I've said to just leave it until it becomes an issue that can be diagnosed.

Thanks mate, I’m tempted to put another fuel filter on but I only changed it in May for a genuine one which costs a lot of money as you know, maybe I’ll try a Mahle one and leave my spare genuine one in the shed for another time 🤣

The genuine ones haven't been made for a few years! Was it shrink wrapped ?

I'm using only Coopers fuel filters and never had issues with the sound of the pump... actually mine is so quiet that i have to concentrate to hear it and i was scared few times that it's dead

Thanks mate, just as they stopped selling them I purchased a few, I’m sure a couple of them come from twinwoods 4x4 😉 and I’ve been changing the genuine ones yearly but the filter housing I got come with a Mahle filter so that was changed after 6 months to be on the safe side, I think they come rapped in plastic I’ll check the box later
