Hi i think i could have some air in my fuel system on my FL2 .Since having a new fuel filter fitted when it starts up first thing on a morning its running very lumpy for a couple of minutes.I,m told the FL2 IS not a self bleeding system like the FL1 so how can i bleed the system out please.TIA

You will need to get yourself one of these below and bleed/prime the fuel filter, who ever fitted it should have done this anyway ?

I bought this and intend to make my own up as I would like the connections a bit longer, but the ready made ones will do the job

Yes the garage should have done it but i,m only guessing its air in the system it could be a glow plug thats down.I think the best bet is when i get my holiday out of the way this week is to take it back to the garage and let him find out for sure but its started happening since fuel filter was fitted that makes me think its that.Once it settes it runs lovely .Thanks for the reply

I don't think many general garages think you need to prime the FL2 fuel system. It's kinda backward, when most other modern diesels are self priming.

Hi Nodge the guy is supposed to be Landrover trained its got it on his cards and the board but i suppose that would been in the days of FL1 so you could be right he might just think this followed on and is self bleeding

what do you mean by Priming??
Priming is simply replacing the air admitted during work, eg filter change, with fuel. I could have used the word bleeding instead. But priming is more related to fuel systems. Whatever the word used. Any air introduced at service time, needs to be removed on completion. Unfortunately on the FL2, this needs to be carried out manually by the technician on completion.

Got you on the priming bit thanks. Now i have noticed that the vehicle starts a lot better if i turn on the ignition and leave it a couple of minutes before starting up.Ii,s not perfect but its a lot less lumpy on start up if i do this ??

Since there's no electric fuel pump on a FL2 2.2 diesel then it can only point to potentially the glowplugs providing extra heat and helping the starting process.....

Yes the glow plugs are what i suspected first off.I went and had a word with my mechanic today to tell him my findings on start up since having fuel filter fitted and he said if there was air in fuel system it would not run as well as it does once warm.He then came out with the old chestnut LR tecnichians like to use bring it in and we will illiminate things one by one starting with glowplugs but he said it could be the injectors not seating correctly aswell so we would have to look into that too.So it looks like he wants to go down the road of replacing old for new till its sorted like he did with the fl1 i had
