just posted this in the expensive bit at the bottom of the page but thought it might come in handy for the peasants at the top.
air con no worky..; topped up with re charge kit using in line gauge to the middle of the green area.... A/C not very cold.. so i bite the bullet and took it to "A/C specialist"
after much hoo haaing and ******g about he decide that both my mechanical fan and the compressor were gubbed. this was after he had cleaned out between the radiator and the condensor
so he goes off to price up fan clutch, compressor and receiver/dryer.
i spots these rubber flaps on the fan cowling opposite the leccy fan, they didn't appear to be doing anything so i tried to open one and it broke off. the rest did the same.
suddenly and without warning the A/C temp dropped like an english football captain.
i reckon that because the rubber had harden the flaps couldn't flap and the leccy fan was unable to push air through the condensor; so the gas wasn't getting cooled and that in turn gave the same syptoms as a blocked condensor or a gubbed compressor. i now have cold air and a bulging wallet i may get around to replacing the flaps with some rubber from either a cheap doormat or an old inner tube...or i might not bother all depends on what the temp gauge says in winter.
