Another question... My air con condenser is leaking, all the gas is gone. I'm trying to track one down (its a 2001 2.5 DT!) but I've got a feeling that it might be some time before I can get it sorted. Should I just turn off the air con (on the switch on the hevac) to save the compressor from wearing itself out?
Thought I could easily live without it for a while but its got all hot and sunny again!
Thanks

If you can do a temporary seal of the system, the oil used is hydro scopic and will absorb moisture. Some times you can cut passes out of a condenser, it is basically the same as a radiator.

I was wondering about that... tho' there were comments on here some time ago about how difficult it was to weld them, being so thin. It is also the pressure I guess which would rule out chemical metal or similar. But it would have to come out for a proper look anyway.

Condenser is a continuous coil you can't cut bits out of it. Not the same construction as a radiator where you can remove a tube and block each end.
