My 1.8 Kalahari G4 has been regassed and while it worked well it only lasted a few weeks!.

Today took it for a nitrogen test to look for leaks.
No leaks found. Regassed and working. If it fails again then I will assume compressor seals leaking while running.

To aid testing I took the front bumper off. Anyone tell me what the black box on the wheel arch is?? Looks to be connected to the air intake!

Also, since a regas even with the air con switched off the cooling fans come on. Never seen them run before.
Car has a mind of its own!!

Looks grim with bumper off.

It an empty chamber, called an intake resonator. Its job is to reduce induction noise from the intake system, which would be very loud at certain RPMs otherwise.;)

Was the heater diverter control set to the windscreen position? If so that's you're answer, as the AC is activated when the screen position is set.

No, I thought of that, the fan came on twice on a short run with no air con and no demist position. Must be related to the work with the recharge as they have never come on before. Believe me it isn't hot in Devon at the moment!!!

Hi, like Jedi says condenser rad. is a good place to look. I did the same as you, re-gas ok for a couple of weeks then nothing so had it re-gassed again with dye & found pin hole in the rad. I ended up doing engine radiator while I had it apart as that looked a bit iffy.
