Hi all, does anyone know if you can strip the condensing fan down ? Re-gassed the air con & the fan is noisy so I want to strip the fan & re-grease/replace the bearing(s), unless of course it runs on bushes then it will just be a re-grease job. Thanks in advance.

You can strip it if you want, i had mine rewinded and keep it for spare

Found why the fan was make a squeaky noise, broken magnet, see pic. Just when you think you won't have to spend anymore beer tokens :(worth a try I suppose.

Hi all, have been having a search for a condenser fan motor, I can find (new) VDO PM9261 but only from the states does anybody know if they're available from Europe ? Not had any luck with a second hand item yet but I'll keep searching, unless anyone on here has one or knows of one that's not needed (as long as the magnets are ok that'll do as the windings on mine are fine)?:) Many thanks in advance.

Try him

After having no luck sorcing a condenser fan I decided to repair my one. After a clean up where the magnet attaches & wiped with thinners I glued the magnet back in place with some JB weld & clamped it overnight, rebuilt it today & it works. I'll get the system regassed & fingers crossed it will last to I can source another one.

Well done mate!:):):):)
To be fair the fan worked before but noisy & it's thanks to you Stan I'd seen you mentionJB weld in some of your other posts that I thought I'd give it a try. Not only did I 'weld' the main bit back to the housing but also 'welded that slither to the bit still attached to the housing, just wish I knew how to upload a video on here. Cheers mate.

My pleasure!
But I would say that I think it goes off, in the tubes.
As recently I have tried to use it again, and it didn't go off as fast as usual and one thing actually fell apart.
But yep a fresh set of tubes and it's good stuff!

Hi all, after a run to the Billing off road show today (the longest run I've done in the Disco yet) I noticed that the condenser fan I repaired wasn't working although I was still getting cold air out of it front & rear. So when I got home tonight I checked related fuses & swapped R4 (fan) with R3 in the eng. fuse box but still no condenser fan but after reading pg 82-18 of the w/s manual it states ' the cooling fan request is output if the vehicle speed is below 80km/h whilst the outside temp. is 28°C or more' so 'am I looking for a fault that doesn't exist as the conditions stated weren't met ? The other thing I noticed, for a few seconds after I switched the engine off was a noise from the heater assy. which sounds like it's something to do with pressure releasing maybe from the thermostatic expansion valve. The clutch on the compressor engages when the a/c is switched on. The wife & I were both thought it drove great & I must admit I'm impressed with the ACE system. Noticed a leak from the front diff. output shaft so I'll have to get that done ASAP but otherwise all the hard work done in the last year seems to have paid off so far.
Any thoughts on the A/C would be much appreciated.

Nice to hear!:):):)

The operation mode of the D2's aircon fan is not the best IMO, that 28*C outside temp limit is not OK cos at lower temps the fan doesnt start so the compressor gets too hot and the pressure in the system very high as the dual pressure switch disengages the clutch only at 32 Bar which is exagerated, at around 30 bar the compressor's temperature is very high too. Most "normal" systems are working at around 23 Bar pressure. An aircon specialist strongly recommended to do something to fix that so i unplugged the outside temp sensor cos on that default the fan runs all the time when aircon is on and i dont miss the outside temp reading.

So is that why I hear that noise from behind ETC unit ? (Just high pressure dispersing when the system is switched off ).
It's funny you should mention disconnecting the OTS as when I put the fan back on (after removing the snapped bolts & painting the bracing bars) I noticed the ETC beeped twice when the ign. was on & the display lit up, without the ETC being turned on & was getting a code 12 when I did the ETC diagnostic, it turned out in my haste to get it back together I'd forgotten to plug the OTS back in ! So that's why the fan worked (& not after I plugged the OTS in).
So I'll strip the grill off again & unplug it (I can live with 2 or 3 beeps when you switch on);).
Once again SF many thanks.
It's a funny old world when you can 'improve' things by mistakes:).
