A few years back I was recommended to replace my air suspension with coil springs (after going through a couple of air bags within a year).
I thought it seemed like good advice but since I have become a lot more mechanically minded I wonder about it.

Recently I discovered the pumps, pipes etc were all removed and that these parts can be quite pricey.

I'm wondering if the garage doing the work ought to have told me the value of the parts they were taking off. Especially since I paid for the springs and their fitting.

So, did they see me coming?

Also can someone clarify if moving to springs I lost ACE (or anything else I might regret)

Cheers

removing air and replacing with coils doesnt effect ace, different system, its a hydraulic ram that puuls pushes on roll bar ,coils gives better ride /handling ,and should have been cheap as kits for coils are only £80 ish and can be fitted in less than a hour ,i allways leave pipes and compressor on as they are sell-able

My mechanic always gives me the bits he takes off. Since they're worn and useless I always ask him to bin them, but at least he offers them to me.

Mind you, he is worth his weight in platinum. I once asked him to do a full service on a 3-series BMW I'd just bought, and he phoned me up and said everything had obviously recently been done and it was a shame to change anything. So £0 for him that day - but lots of goodwill.

Ok - so I've kept ACE - thats good to know - thanks.

Are the pipes and compressor worth enough to be peeved about?

The compressor should sit in the rectangular box/carrier under the car on the LHS right?

A good, friendly, helpful mechanic is definitely worth their weight in gold/platinum etc! - shame they're so hard to find!

Turns out the springs were £58+vat each - £313+vat to fit the lot with sundry related bits.
But I have no idea of the make of the springs nor, even, whether they were new or just new to me!
Back then I didn't really know about car maintenance - see what a D2 has done to me! :)
