no, if the fault has gone then it will perform as normal but the ecu will keep the fault logged untill its cleared.

No, that's rubbish.

If there is no fault, then power will be restored even though there will be fault codes logged.

If the performance is not normal after 3 drive cycles, then take it back. Something else is wrong or the new maf is not good. (Its not an ebay Chinese clone one is it?)

Out of spec maf sensors usually don't cause any fault codes anyway. (Unless you have driven with it unplugged.)
