Looking to buy a defender 90 2008.Last two most have shown an advisory oil leak from under engine. Lookimg under engine it is an irregular very slow drip in two areas. Should I be worried about purchasing vehicle. Could this be an expensive fix and does it even need to be looked at?

That’s how they are generally. 90s are sort of environmentally friendly o_O They slowly leak oil back into the ground where it came from. You can tell where I used to live when I had a 90 by the big dark patch outside still from years of small drips. tarmac is oil anyway and smeared with diesel when layed so shouldn’t harm the road, but a brick paved drive will be ruined.

No one can even answer that question with any accuracy as we do not know where the oil is leaking from, for example leaky gasket = potential cheap fix, rear main seal defo not a cheap fix and so on.

My old series leaks from the front crank seal, has done for years but never been mentioned on the mot. It stops dripping a few minutes it's after the engine is switched off so my argument is that it doesn't leak most of the time.

Hi and welcome!

My 90 leaks, like most do. Before you part with any cash, get the leaks checked out. There are cheap to fix leaks and not so cheap to fix leaks...
