Advice on speaker/amp systems in a Defender

Morning all,

I wondered how many folk on here have bothered to upgrade their sound system in the landy?

I fancy getting a sub and some decent speakers to replace the knackered old landy ones but don't really no much about it all.

Has anyone installed and amp, sub and speakers before? Will my battery be alright to power it? Any suggestions on makes/models would be really appreciated.

I'm a musician and I want something with better quality and enough volume to drown out all the rattles! It's a 92 plate 110 county.

What seats to you have in the back.

these are good, but do not fit if you have bench seats.

Ive fitted a pair of ministry of sound 6x9s in the back, and upgraded the front ones to a pair of JBL 4" speakers, be aware that the front ones will need a spacer ring to fit at the passenger side, the wiper motor is in the way of standard speakers, landy ones are slimmer, other slimmer ones may be out there, but at a cost.

A pair of tweeters (cant remember the brand) are sat at home waiting for me to put them in somwhere

now just sorting a few other bits before I get a couple of those flat Subs to go under the rear seats, probably going for passive ones cos I already have a Lightening Audio Amp.
 
I can even drown mine out :D

some extra sound deadening will help, I needed sopme behind my new speakers, without, it just made new rattles!!
 
I've got a 110 Double cab and have the amps under the seats, see pictures i've got under my member area.
Had a nice JVC DAB radio fitted too.

Those JBL speakers look nice and I'd not thought about a DAB in the landy but I'd like one as I only really listen to 6music!
 
how does DAB work on the move these days?, last time I tried it (albeit sortof in its infancy) it was terrible, break up and jitter as you drove round high built up areas and hills.
 
I just ran a set of speakers up to the headlining above where the seat belts attach. These have made a huge difference as the sound is not being sent to my knees!
 
Just fitted a JVC Dab head unit to mine. Oxfordshire is mediocre at best and even before I replaced the window antenna with a new roof DAB/FM/AM one it was fine.
 
I've go full speaker amp sub set up. i run all four speakers and HUGE sub with a standard battery and a nice 900w amp. got four alpines that serve as almost perfect replacements for the standard set plus two tweeters just make sure you get a decent head unit with enough RCA's and your done, i got a relatively cheap song head unit for about 150 but it came with bluetooth hands free phone and i pod connection, best thing you can do to save money is to go to your local halfords and look in the clearance section, most will be ex display stuff but perfect working order and cheap as! good luck
