Hi
Have a P38, 4.6 and 75% of the time when I park the car the car lowers down, is this normal? when i start the car up it levels up in a bout 30 - 60 secs
any advice will be welcome :)
thanks

Phil

Either you have a leaking airspring where it folds under that sometimes doesn't leak, or it's where you park. If I leave mine on flat ground it stays up, if I leave it on uneven or sloping ground it goes down fairly quickly as the EAS trys to self level every 6 hours.

theres a way to stop the eas self leveling it will help locating the leak
leave a door or boot open for a few hours (longer the better) and the spring with the leak will drop but the eas wont try to correct this because it sences the door is open.
then its just a matter of checking that spring and the pipes running back to the valve block.
also worth checking is when you start the car from when its droped and the doors have been closed ie. the eas is working as normal, is how long the pump runs for and if it gets hot.
if it gets so hot it you cant hold it your loseing way to much air and your pump wont live much longer like this
after a normal repressure it should run for about 5 mins max

Compressor running temperature is up to 120C, I don't think you are likely to be able to hold it unless you have asbestos fingers:eek:

Hi Guys
Drove the car, parked it unp ad opened the boot, 4 hours later car still up, closed boot. next morning car still up.
Drove next day ,parked up and car was down in about 30 mins
Does a valve close when boot is open to prevent car dropping ? if so maybe this valve isnt working during normal operation
Any help will be appreciated
:)

Leaving boot/door opens prevents self levelling.
Intermittent air leaks is often due to old/perished airbags: as they fold up/down different bits are exposed releasing/trapping holes. Parking on uneven ground may show this problem up.
How old are your airbags? Over 10yrs and you`re on borrowed time.

car is 11 years old , dont know if bags were ever changed.
do bags have to be changed as a pair? as it seems to go right down at the back.
what are the best bags , I have seen some Dunlop ones on ebay for £70 each, are these any good?

Airbags should always be changed in pairs, better to do all four. Look at P38 Spares and Arnott gen II airbags, not much more expensive and come with a lifetime warrenty.
