just had a diagnostic done to tell me why the ABS, TC and HDC lights are staying on. told its the ABS modulator and the part is $4000 dollars here in Australia. just wondering if it could be somthing really simple?, has anyone had a similar problem with an easy and cheaper outcome?. any help would be greatly welcomed.

The ABS modulator is shared with the Disco 2. Basically there are flutter valves in it which, if you don't use HDC or ABS, jam shut after a period (it was common in 4 year old Discos that had been used solely on road) so during the test at start up the computer recognises an error, hence the lights.

I don't know if this is a cure, but you may as well try, but I do know it works as a preventative... activate the HDC. The easiset way to do this is to press the HDC button, accelerate in 1st and then let your foot off the gas pedal. The computer gets 'scared' and applies the brakes (with much grinding noise) but all the flutter valves are operated so they don't become stuck.

Don't know if it will work once the warning light is on (HDC may have been disabled) but good luck... they're expensive units to replace.

I've heard of technicians opening up the units and cleaning them but I don't know how much it costs or how effective it is.

Go through the old threads in search this has bin on before ,think its a wiring issue, best oh luck. . .:)

It could be as easy as the brake light switch not fitted properly as it was on mine. hope so for your sake mate, Its like a bayonet fitting and mine was only located on one side...;)

I had the same light came on all the time, had bin orft road,so got underneath the rear of the motor, and found a branch with leaves jammed in the sensor wheel yoke, pulled it all out and hey presto fault cured, what i'm trying ta get at is ya have four wheel sensors and yokes,[the yoke is the metal bit for detection, think its 4x blips per one wheel rotation] so ta cut to the chase,if any one of these fails for whatever reason, then faulty light comes up and in my case the hdc light, hope this all makes sence. . .:)

Thanks Ming,
the diagnostic said it was the modulator,, sensors were ok.had already looked at all the sensors hoping to find somthing simple but they were fine. having a reconditioned one fitted tommorow so should be all good I hope. still expensive at $2000 australian.
