ABS light staying on

Hi guys

You may not know me as i normally cruise the defender section but i have a question to ask for a work colleague that you be able to help me with, anyway he has a V reg 1.8 freelander and the A.B.S. light stays on i don't know anything about freelander's so hopefully you can help, any idea's please

check under the front seats, seat tensioner plugs get unplugged often

One stays on until you drive off over 20mph

Errr that will set the sram light not the abs!

As said abs light stays on until you reach a certain speed, if it still stays on beyond 20 mph it needs to be plugged in as there are so many reasons why.....

Is this something specific to UK Hippos? My ABS (and all other lights except the seat belt of course) go out immediately after the engine starts (even if stationary).

SRS warning is usually caused by overly vigorous vaccuming under the seats (plugs get separated), but not the ABS. ABS warning can be multiple things (module, pump, sensors, wiring, relays, fuses). Few months ago I was chasing ABS warning on wife's Jaguar, and pulling my hair out! Found out that one of the wires on the front right sensor, was broken (inside the loom!) and had intermittent contact. It took DAYS to find it! And that was AFTER all the sensors were cleaned, pump serviced, module replaced, etc.

I would have thought that all Hippos need to leave the ABS light on till they start moving because its only once they start moving they can test the wheel sensors are working. Unless the US versions only check the sensors once the ECU is registering speed.

This IS funny, I don't care who you are! Kinda like ..."a friend of mine suffers from ED, doc what is he to do?"

As far as ABS light,......I never drove any other Hippo but my wife's 02. I never even sat in one. THIS one gets all the lights on the dash on, with key in "1", and after start the ECU performs the system check, and ALL lights go out in sequence (not all at once) I presume to be the sequence of the completed systems checks. The vehicle does not have to move at all.

if abs light stays on after 5 to 10 mph check sensors for dirt around pick up ring if clean you may have duff sensor need code reader to tell you what one ,replace it properly and should be ok

the abs shows until you reach 5 mph on the early ones the later face lift ones it goes out after start up if the light is staying on then suspect one of the sensors do a search on freelander zone ,if you have a ohms meter you can check each one out.hope this helps
