Gidday,

here i am again, third time this week. This time i am trying to solve a problem with a mates p38.
The brakes on the rangey need to be pumped up and the pump for the abs goes more frequently than mine. I am unsure how to ascertain whether it is the ball thing with gas in it, as i know they give trouble, or the pump. Any ideas?

If the diaphragm in accumulator (ball thingy) leaks it can release it's nitrogen into the brake fluid. The result is spongy brakes and the pump running too often for too long. As the accumulators only have a life of 7 - 8 years you're as well replacing it and probably the old fluid as well.

Do you purge the fluid, as in pump it through as you do when you bleed the brakes, or just suck it out with a syringe and refill with new stuff?

You depressure system, suck as much out of header tank as you can, then fill with new fluid, then bleed brakes until new clean fluid comes out.
