No rear drive at all.
The tranny box has failed due to dry teeth!!!
The tube that runs through the tranny box connects the tranny and bevil to the rear prop. It remains dry Inside and the humidity starts to collect and it starts to rust. The first thing to go is the rear drive and if your unlucky the same tube that connects just inside you gearbox to the diff also does the same.. The worst result is the gearbox is rebuilt to an extent or fully rebuilt...
My question, why no weep hole in the connector tube to allow a certain amount of splash oil to keep the humidity at bay... Funking great idea...
I just wanted to share this anyone interested.
Also check the last picture where there is ruty dust between the tranny and gearbox.... A sure giveaway it's about to happen to you!!!

propshaft end.

gearbox end. The end that is responsable for writing off the diff output to the tranny.

:)

They're supposed to be greased at the factory, but many seem to miss this vital preventive measure.

Thanks ford:rolleyes:
The main issue is the way they fret as the Haldex chops in and out. This fretting, coupled with lack of spline lubrication is what causes the issue.
I suspect that very few FL2s have there original PTU, so hopefully the replacement splines were correctly lubricated when installed, which should reduce subsequent failure.

Understood, this one will go back in with some grease in their to stop any humidity. I don't understand why there wasn't a weep hole or splash effect designed into it. It is sealed at both ends after all??

Sealed for life! In the unlikely event of failure due to improper servicing then simply replace
At cost
There are a couple of places jn blighty that do a tranny box with a rienforced tube but they won't send here unfortunately for the client it's a rebuilt as genuine quality... Not not very reassuring :(
