I'm just starting to look at getting a 90, probably one from between 1985 and 1992, i was wondering what sort of MPG (roughly) I could expect for on road use?

I know its a difficult question but im just looking for ball park figures please.

Cheers guys,

Toby

What kind of road driving?

Inner city driving is a waste of time in a 90, your fuel will disappear regardless of which engine you have.

On country lanes with ups and downs and motorway runs you're looking at approx:

2.5 N/A 25-28MPG
2.5 TD 24-27MPG
200tdi 27-33MPG
300tdi 28-33MPG
TD5 27-35MPG
V8 16-18MPG

ball park figure between 1 and 30

well you asked

smiles per gallon far more important than how much your aerodynamic brick is doin to the gallon

buy a mondeo diesal if you want economy

cheers, its not that it would be a make or break, im just trying to get an idea of running cost, the MPG will affect my decision in no way whatsoever.

as per the smiles per gallon, i was under the impression they were constant:D

I like the way that car companies are boasting about all these silly curvy bubble cars achieving 50MPG. Land Rover got 32MPG back in 1990 with the 200TDi without any computery or aerodyanmics (besides the slightly sloped windscreen!) and that's a big mahoosive 2.5 tractor engine in there too!

And since then it's gone down!
There's nothing like adding technology to improve your emmissions but reduce your MPG.

LRO say they only do about 18mpg, my dads low milage N/A with a jeremy fern intercooler did about 26 with steady use, cued 2 cruise at about 55! Personally i would get a later one with a 200tdi, my dad has done a transplant and it is a much nicer engine!
