Picked up series 3 today, all seems okay but a few niggly problems;

1. The top tailgate (catflap thingy), won't open. I've got a bunch of about 7 keys for the landy. Two of which go into the top tailgate lock, but neither will turn the barrel. Also, on the inside of the tailgate, the inside of the lock seems to have nothing on the end of it.
If you look at this pic, Rear tailgate lock and handle it's got the handle, but even if I replace my fecked lock, I still don't know what goes on the inside. Any ideas?

2. Neither of the door locks work, from either the inside or the outside. You have to really slam them to get them to even shut properly and even still, the passenger door flew open as I went around a corner. It's an 1982 ex mod 88 so I can only presume they're jammed or something. If they need replacing aswel, is it a simple job? and anyone have a part number for them?

3. What's the best oil to feed her. I used to give my old mini that classic car oil from halfords but what do you lot recommend?

4. The door seals could do with replacing which is a simple job, but the window channels etc. have seen better days. Is it a fairly simple job to do that too?

Cheers.

1- Can't visualise what you mean but worst case you'll need a new lock mechanism I would think
2- You can buy sets of matched lock barrels cheap enough from Paddocks etc, piece of **** to change, it's either documented on here or in the Haynes as my mate managed it before!
3- I've always just stuck any old oil in so long as its brown/black and runny lol, and then just change regularly...
4- Not too bad to do, I've got these to do myself - take a look at this guide and I think dirtyrhino did a bit of a write up on doing the truck cab sliding window on his project thread.

Hope this is of some use :)

Cool cheers boys.

With regards to the catflap locking problem, I made a diagram...

If you imagine that "2" is the tailgate, then "1" is what is just sticking out on the inside of the door if that makes sense. It looks as though there should be a knob, or handle that fits on it, to make it possible to open the door from the inside, but just wondering if that's the case? or if not, what is the purpose of the square shaft?
