Hi all. New member probably asking an age old question but have read through previous threes to no avail. I have a 2003 Facelift model Freelander TD4 with an egr delete.
Currently experiencing issues with turbo boost pressure. Consistently throwing up low boost pressure sensor fault so done the usual check list. New intercooler pipes, new vacuum solenoid, new vacuum pipes. Checked wastegate actuator was functioning properly. Whilst doing that also done a full service (oil, filters, lpfp) None of this worked so bought a new m.a.p sensor at the same time cleaning out inlet manifold and fitted it for the fault to disappear for about 30miles and come back as fault code related to overboost reading on m.a.p sensor. Along with the added joy of limp mode. Thought the new sensor may be dodgy. Fitted old sensor again to rule that out. Now throws up low boost pressure fault again along with intermittent lack of power. Checked all pipes were tight and no leaks. Now a bit confused as to what could be causing the problem bar a duff turbo. Does anyone else have any ideas. Current fault code is P0237 no pending. Cheers

I have a new starter to put on anyways so will remove the starter beforehand. Been avoiding doing that job for ages due to the top bolt not wanting to budge. May aswell do both at the same time

Just a tip - use 6 sided sockets for tight bolts and nuts or you'll round them and be stuffed !! I bought a set of metric 3/8 drive and 1/2 inch drive high impact 6 sided and they are fab !

Can't remember if the top bolt on the starter has a nut on it - one of them has a nut to catch you out !!
I have a fairly comprehensive tool box being a steel fitter in the past. I think the top one is threaded in and there's a nut on the bottom somewhere. I was terrified of shearing it and royally screwing myself so left it till I had another reason to tackle it. Today is the day. Have new sensor .so hopefully later I'll be able to bring good news

Hope it goes well. As mentioned in my thread, check and double check the sensor 'O' ring fits snugly into the counterbore in the block and then the sensor air gap is correct.

What a pain in the backside job that was. Hopefully it will solve the issue. The old one was filthy. Cleared all existing codes. Now to drive home and see if it plays me up anymore .

Drives fine. No lack of power. Still an odd wooshing noise when above 2800rpm. Like air escaping but I know there is no leaks as had it connected up to the smoke machine at the workshop. Only thing I can think is wastegate isn't holding pressure despite the vacuum system being fully refurbished. May have to bite the bullet and take it to the landrover garage.
