99 xe di noise when accelerating? help?

hi

I have got a strange noise when you accerate hard so revs are over 2000rpm particuly in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear. it sounds like a metalic spinning or grining? its coming from somewhere in engine or below? its not there when are is in neutral?

any ideas?

Hoping that the ird is not knackered, first thing i would do would be to replace the oils is the gear box and both diffs then see how noisey it is. If it is still noisey after that then i would suspect the ird is knackered. I assume you can get all of the gears easily.

yes can select gears however there is a lot of play on gear stick when in gear, reverse can be difficult to find?

there is no prop on the car, there is no loss of power?

First place to check then would be the gearbox oil.
