Greetings everyone,

My 97 4x4 Blazer was having some strange problems with the turn
signals. For a while, sometimes the blinkers would work, sometimes
they didnt. Now they have just stopped blinking completely.

The hazards do work fine. The lights flash and you can hear the
blinking sounds. When you push the turn signal lever up or down, you
get no lights and no sound (inside or out). The springs still seem to
work because after you make the turn, the lever pops back into
position.

I would like to tackle this myself, but before I do I was wondering if
someone could help me narrow down my search for the problem. The fuses

all seem to be OK, which leads me to believe that I will need to
replace the multiswitch. This is an expensive part and was wondering
if anyone knows of anything else I can check before make the purchase.

Thanks for all your help,

Ben M.

Replace the bulbs first and check the grounds, the blinkers may have dual
element bulbs one element is for the hazard the other for the blinker.
Could also be worn or crudded up sockets.

Try these before replacing the switch, easier and a lot cheaper.

Try replacing the blinker relay. It's usually a rectangular thing sticking
out of the fusebox. That's a part that normally does wear out; the
multiswitch does not. Many (most?) cars have one relay for the turn signals
and another for the hazards, which would explain why your hazards work.

Checking the bulbs is a good idea, but usually when this problem is caused
by a bad bulb, the left and right don't fail at the same time.
