94 Mazda B3000 4x4 Manual Transmission

In the process of dropping the transmission, it's stuck in 5th gear & won't
come out. Not sure what the problem is yet. Any suggestions or comments?

shifter forks not engaged for overdrive
usually start assembly in neutral to allign forks
