Happy days all

well one week into defender ownership and i have broken it :)

(300tdi sw 1994)

When i try to start the bugger there is a rapid loud clattery noise and vibration from the PRC 6913 (glow plug timer), I have bought a replacement one and is the same.

When I put the ignition on the clattering starts, the lights on the dash glow dimly until the clattering stops (approx 5-20 seconds) and then illuminate fully (except the orange one) when i turn the key to start nothing occurs.

I have tested the battery and that is fine, I have also been able to start with jump leads. Although on way home on mway it cut out and restarted before I could pull onto hard shoulder, which was fun!

any ideas ppl? (i have already given it a good thrashing with a stick. but that didnt work, although it cheered me up no end :D)

Replace the Battery!

Despite testing the battery twice, I couldn't think of anything else, so I pulled the battery out of the works car and Hey Presto it worked!

Defender: putting you in touch with your emotions!
(mostly anger and annoyance :))

Ah - so your battery was so low it couldn't keep the relay on... hence the clatter.

I guess the jump leads should have given that away...
