Hi everyone, ive just registered with the forum as at the weekend i (foolishly ?) bought a clapped out 90 as a winter project. Ive had 3 series 2s in the past so am not new to landies but have a couple of questions specific to this beast:
Bought as a 1994 90 n/a 2.5 diesel, I see on the V5 its listed as a LR4C - what does this mean please?
Gear selection is vague to put it mildly with reverse and first being impossible to differentiate between!! is this an easy fix?
The captive nuts for the passenger door hinges appear to have come adrift in the door pillar - is there an alternative to chopping a hole from the inside to access the nuts?

Regarding the gearbox, its a LR... Probally the springs worn, not giving you a proper feel for the far push for rev. and the small push for 1st.
 
Theres a plunger housing on the side of the gearlever housing that has a ball bearing and some other bits and bobs in it, this when adjusted creates the resistance for reverse. It's under the gearlever gaiter take it of clean it and adjust it you may have to take the transmission tunnel of to get at it properly.
 
difflockswitch resize.jpgits the luggy type thing near the gaiter (actually it's called a grommet but there we are). Right wheres No 86 then.

Dear Steve52,
If the gears are working OK then it may live a little longer by adjusting the bias springs on the remote (at the bottom of the gear lever.
Check that the aluminium housing is not worn where the gear lever pegs protrude as putting a new one on will make a load of difference.

I hope this doesnt sound daft, but if i drill the heads off. that will release the hinge but the the 2 screws will still be left in the captive nuts which have come loose in the door pillar? thanks
