Morning all,

I’ve got a bit of a headlight issue.
I’ve got a 1987 90 with a 200tdi in it.
I replaced all the lights with Wipac llights and Trucklite LED headlights. Everything was working well for 3 or 4 weeks. Yesterday I noticed that my driver side dipped beam wasn’t working. Upon further inspection I’ve got the below results.

Driver side no dipped headlight when on dipped beam.
On full beam both headlights work as expected (dipped and main come on together)
When using the flash function I have no flash on either headlight.

Has anyone had this before or know what it could be?

I'm not familiar with your car and its wiring, but as you've got no answers, I'd start by checking any fuses and the bulbs. A easy way to check the bulbs if your not sure if they have blown is swap them for the opposite side that you know works.

See that’s the odd one as all bulbs work on high beam which is the high led and dipped led simultaneously. So it’s the flash function on both sides and the dipped function on one side that aren’t working. (The lights themselves aren’t faulty) Odd as the high beam provides power to all these lights. Could it perhaps be the switch that’s faulty? Or is there a relay somewhere that is for flash function? (Still doesn’t explain dipped on one side??)

column switch as above. However, main beam and flasher circuits are on different fuses. Might be worth checking that. If i remember correctly, horn and flasher is on the same fuse, so if horn is working then you know it's not the fuse.

Cheers, I’ll have a look. So if a blown fuse is the flash fault and gives me a lack of horn what could be a dip beam fault on one side? But then the dipped beam works when the high beam is used. (Both high and dipped go on at the same tome on high beam). Could a column stalk be the fault for all of it?

Does anyone know if there are two separate wires for each dipped beam from the switch? Seems odd that the dipped beam on one side doesn’t work on the main light switch and then the flash doesn’t work at for either side on the other stalk switch???

The two sides are fused individually so four fuses left hand main left hand dipped right hand main right hand dipped but are fed by one cable for dipped and one cable for main,if the column switch contacts stick you can get both dipped and main on together so worth checking

It’s a mystery so far. The headlights I have are designed to have dipped and main on at the same time when on full beam. It was all working fine and now throwing issues. Still unsure as to why it’s only one side on dipped. So when selected main beam both dipped are on as expected. So power is getting to the dipped light but not when I’m the dipped position. And the no flash is odd too.

what type of lights are they if you want dipped and main on together strange a bit more info please pict's are a great help

Had a bit of a wiggle around and they all work now. The headlights are Trucklite Phase 7s. Top half of the light is dipped and the bottom half goes on for main beam. So both together to make the main beam. I can hear a relay making behind the dash that I couldn’t before though. I still had no flash but then seemed to do nothing and now the flash works too. Mind blown!!
Problem is now my battery light is on while the engine is on???

who installed the lights sound like it,has been altered to relays one for main one for dipped if so may be dodgy relay or bad or loose connection ,would not think its load related to LED as the do not drawn that much current

I installed the lights. They are just plug and play though. They worked fine for weeks though and only went funny yesterday. I’m thinking it’s more loose connector or failing relay. I’ll have to have a look in the light to see what’s going on back there.
