I have a coolant leak, it is right behind the thermosta housing. Is this
housing removeable. I am not talking about the hose housing but the
housing the thermosta fits into. Is this housing replaceable or do I have
a crack in the engine?

I'm not familiar with the 4runner, but from replacing thermostats on other
cars...

The housing usually has 2 seals -- 1 (hose clamp) on the hose side and 1
(gasket) on the engine side. When you buy a thermostat, they often throw in
the right gasket for free for the engine side, because you mess the old one
up when you open it.

Replacing that gasket is the first thing you should try.
