Morning chaps and chapettes....cold isn't it??

Just been out to the RR to move it from in front of the Garage to allow the girlfriend to get her car out...

The temp gauge was reading -5 so must have been close to -8 or 9 last night, anywho, went to start the car, and whilst it seemed to turn over fine, once it fired it was only on 3-4 cylinders then 'Gearbox Fault' message....

Turned off, started again, started better, but still GB Fault....turned off...started car but this time conciously gave it it plenty of beans on the accelerator pedal to get the revs up enough to start charging the battery and providing power to the ECU's....no GB Fault...yippee.

So it sounds like the battery is getting low, open bonnet to check connections etc, lift off the battery cover and there, bold as brass is a sticker with 680cca on it....no bloody wonder it struggled a bit with the plunging temperatures....

Now to the query,

I know Datatek reccomends Battery Megastore, Dopey has had good results from Lincon, and an 1100cca battery is the route to take, I was wondering if anyone else has an input on suppliers and costs??, Delivery times?? Customer aftersales Service?? etc....

Nothing finds a weakening battery like cold weather. Think you can get an high CCA battery for around £100.00 or so if you look around. Like the headlines this morning. "Britain has coldest winter night so far". Think they mean somewhere down south did, no frost here at all. Apparently Britain is south of Watford these days.

I got an Alphaline from Battery megastore delivered next day, well packaged for just pennies under a hundred quid and combined with a new engine to body earth lead i fitted, the old girl starts with a flick of the key now hot or cold, and returns a great charge to the battery and-so far-no more strange warning light behaviour.:)

saint funny thing is my seemed to turn over slowly to day -6 and run as if not all glow plugs were working no faults tho.. so is now pluged in to an optimate checked battery water levels all ok just waiting for charging cycle to tell what condition the battery is in. it always on short jorneys get alternator fault i quik blip on pedal and all is well i have checked battery good, alternator output good. wires good all working so just left it for now only seems to do it on short journeys

I have been perfectly happy with the 110ah battery i got last year but if i was to get another i would get the 130ah datatek recommends just for the hell of it and because its the biggest. :) I have used battery megastore and Tanya and have no complaints with either.

Only minus 8 or 9? Minus 16C here last night, minus 12 showing on the HEVAC, 22 seconds before the glow light went out, started instantly:D 135AH 1000CCA Alphaline from Battery Megastore. I have no connection to the company, good delivery good price, not had cause to test the after sales service though:)

My yellow top optima battery is probably the best money I ever spent. Its been thoroughly drained many times, left in the unmoving car for over 2 years and it still fires the car over as soon as the key turns. Its now 5 years old as well.

8 yr old ford transit batt...perfect still..(on me rangie)

re scotland breakaway.....cant wait..war again...we coming for your oil!!!

Let em go I say, cut off all the foreign aid, close all the military bases and move them to England, change the clocks to European time withdraw support for RBS. Scotland would soon become a whisky sodden peasant economy LOL.

Got a Varta 110ah from Tayna 18 months ago. It recently kept going flat overnight (another story), eventually let me down at work and had to call the AA who tested the battery and recommended replacement. Called Tayna who would only send me a new battery if I sent it back to them (at my own cost), and allowed them to fully charge and test before sending me a replacement. What was I supposed to do for a week while they did that?
One tip I got when venting my exasperation in this forum, was to shop around on the web, and then, once you've settled on a battery, go to a local bricks & mortar retailer and ask them to match the price (they might, they might not, but worth the price of a phone call). If do buy locally and end up having problems with the battery, at least you've got somewhere local to take it back to to get service.

Keith you just described the perfect country, no military, no RBS draining the public coffers and whisky for all. Realisticly what more would ask of a government...they get my vote.:D
