Hi all. I have recently purchased 1.8S 3dr hardtop, 53 reg Freelander. I want to change the standard stereo for one I already have that takes mp3. The only thing I am not sure of is that the Freelander has 6 speakers, and I think my stereo is set to receive 4. It's a JVC G611. When my husband put it in my Astra (which had 6 speakers) it seemed to just come out of 4. Does anyone know if there is a wiring loom or something that can be adapted so that I can still use the 6 speakers? I know that the wiring loom on the landy can go straight onto most after market radios, but I want to retain the 6 speakers. I just want to pose in my new landy with the roof off and stereo blasting (mid life crisis!!) :D
I have been on a JVC site but nothing there helps me and done a search on Google, but again, nothing to help.

Thanks in advance if you can help!

from recollection, the output from the head unit will cover 4 channels, front left, front right, back left, back right. generally, if a car has 6 speakers, the number of channels will still be 4, but the two front channels will be split via a crossover, usually in the door itself, to send high notes to a tweeter, usually mounted in the vicinity of the door mirror, and low notes to the woofer, usually located lower down.

Thus it should be a simple matter of just connecting front left to front left front right to front right and so on.

(please accept this is very much a simplification, but should hopefully help)

good luck

;) Thanks for your reply Optimus Prime. Told hubby - just need to speak to him nicely to get it put in!!

Wiring Diagrams

Have a look at this Suep, the ISO connector, MR Prime is correct that the additional speakers at the front are tweeters and are connected via crossover units off the front speaker leads. Hence only four sets of outputs

Have fun, cheers Dutch RR
