6 bolt steering box drop arm query?

Well it started off as a straight forward job. Split rubber on drop arm ball joint so order up a new ball joint kit and extractor. All other steering joints done as MOT advisory (well not all but whilst there), easy removal of old ball joint, all greased and back together....that is except for the circlip. Could I get it on? Nah! Eventually had bottle jack and socket to put pressure on. Circlip in...or so I thought. All back together and then off for a tip run. Admittedly I knew the tracking would need doing, but it was wandering more than expected. As predicted the circlip had parted company somewhere down the road, so a good job the ball is held in by the drag link nut.
Suffice to say I have ordered up a new drop arm and ball joint so I can do it on the bench. So now I need to remove the notorious drop arm. Check the nut size on Google. Order up a 34 mm as suggested. Too small. Does anyone happen to know the exact size for the nut on a 6 bolt steering box before reordering and why I should have had such a mare fitting what should have been an easy job.

Sorry, not sure on nut sixe, I could measure mine tomorrow.

Did you order the correct drop arm? one to fit the 6 bolt steering box? the assy tool mkaes it easier to fit the ball joint, but even then it can be a PITA, a lot of peeps suggest changing to the Disco system.

Yep disco arm takes 5 mins to replace the TRE.
I changed mine over 20 years ago as I hated the normal drop arm. You will need a different steering arm to allow the RTC damper to be fixed to it.
 
Yes. I double checked it was the 6 bolt drop arm as I had got the wrong one previously before I checked the steering box.
So explain exactly what I need to change for the disco set up. Not the steering box itself?

If you could measure the nut that would be great. I think it is 35 mm but may be an imperial equivalent.

Having said that, the only steering arm conversion kit I can find is for a 4 bolt steering box. So I am not sure the 6 bolt unit has a similar drop arm available. Another reason I need to change my 6 bolt to a 4 bolt box.

I have a hydraulic puller that you can use if you want?
 
That is a very kind offer. I may just take you up on that if I find myself about to take a sledge hammer to it like I was last week. You aren't far away.
 
FYI 6 bolt drop arm nut is 35 mm. It came off no problem. The new one (now not needed) I ordered from Paddocks is also 35 mm so must be a thing with the 6 bolt.
