Hi all,
New to this site and wondering if anyone can help shed some light on the problem. Bought my first Freelander TD4 about a month ago, noticed something was'nt right and was getting progressively worse, put it in for a diagnostic check and service and found that a sensor was disconnected. Once reconnected, it highlighted a problem with revs going over 3000, engine management light showing up. Turns out to be fuel pump which has been replaced. However, it is cranking over ok but wont fire or takes a looooong time to fire up. My tech says probably injectors, could be 1 or all 4 at £200 a time for refurbs. Anyone else come across this prob? Want to put it in to get sorted but im in the midst of house buying so cash is tight to say the least. Anything I can do to tide it over until I source the funds? Any help will be much appreciated!!!

if it's a leaky injector (which it sounds like) you really have no choice but to get it changed, as eventually it will refuse to start. Mine went from perfect start at 7 am to refusing completely at 2pm, after about 5 stop start cycles, getting progressively worse.

The garage should be able to check which injector is faulty by doing a leak off test and replace only that one if money is tight, but if one has failed the others may well follow.

the price of £200 per injector for refurbs seems a bit pricey, might be worth having a shop round, hard to do when the garage have your car in pieces, but might save you a few quid if cash is tight.

could also be the cam position sensor on the top of the engine, but generally these fail when hot/warm preventing warm starts, but cold start no problem. This would log a fault code in the memory which can be read.

good luck, let us know how you get on.

Hi again, quick question; Anyone used British Parts UK website? Fuel injectors for Freelander are priced at £139 each. Seems a better option but never used the company, would like to know of others experience with them and part quality. Thanks.

Hello again,

I took the freelander to a highly recommended mech. Diagnostic check came up with fault on ECU, turns out to be one injector with high leak back, in the region of 130ml's in 50 seconds. They had the car for a day, injector was repaired, refitted and £284 lighter, she drives like a dream. He informed me that there was rust inside and that the others will probs be the same, moving house atm so will have to cross that bridge if and when it comes to it. Otherwise, Im beaming that it finely drives as it should (although its cost me a grand). Oh well, life's short eh!?!?!?!?
