ive just bought myself a p38 4.6HSE Rangie 1996. Its only got 50k (genuine with all the paperwork & serviced on the nose) ! Its a few years since my last 4.6 but unless my memory is failing me this one seems to lack power at anything below 3000 revs - even in sport mode it takes a severe foot on the throttle and then some patience !

Ive been through all the threads on this forum (and others) and im getting the feeling that the common theme is the MAF unit. I tried the trick of unplkugging it as suggested in a thread for a DHSE but I guess that doesnt work on petrol variants as mine wont start with it unplugged !

Is there any way of testing the unit without special test gear ? Also does anyone agree with my prognosis of the MAF being the most likley culprit or is there something else I should check ? Looking at the history she had new injectors about 8k ago and her last major service was only 2k back.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

yep sounds like the air flow meter

the only proper way to test it is with T4 to see what the readings are.

normally if its a MAF fault it'll cough and splutter when you floor it
