300tdi vs td5

Evening all

Know this has been done to death but what would be the thoughts between a 70k miles 300 tdi county vs a 20k miles td5 ex army, both fantastic condition and original, from a point of ease of use and resale? It’s a hobby vehicle for me and my sons so no intentions in crossing the Sahara. At the same time there are not too many specialists in Surrey very near to me and the local land rover franchise are not too interested in older vehicles. Most of the comparison threads are quite old but I am sure td5 issues must all be well known and easier to remedy now.

If it's for a hobby vehicle then it will depend on your knowledge/skills. The 300Tdi, engine wise, will be easier to play with 'as a hobby'. Just depends on what you want to tackle as a hobby. :)
 
Thanks and apologies being more specific it is an ex RAF Land Rover so probably has spent most of its time on a runway with the last few years as part of a private collection. It’s a special vehicles spec which I am trying to confirm with Land Rover, the downside in yellow, the upside great condition.
 
I had a similar choice and went for the 300. Less electrics to go wrong (and just felt 'right'):) All the best.
 
No mileage at all... Sir, just up and down the runway twenty four seven.

Id go td5 everytime!

Everyone always shouts about the electrics, but this is a non issue. The maintenance is as easy to do on a td5 as it is to do on a 200 or 300, and the extra oomph and driveability you get from the 5 pot makes it a very simple choice in my eyes!

But you wont regret buying either!! ;)
 
My 300 pulls well, when it's running right, and will quite happily keeps up with traffic. But a td5 would be smoother as a daily. Either engine is up to the job.

It's more down to your choice, mechanical or electrical engine control!?
