300TDI revs up and down

Bought a 1998 300TDI Auto this morning ..Test drove it and it seemed OK..However on driving it home when it was at a steady 30MPH the revs fluctuated from 1000rpm to 2000 rpm causing it to accelarate then de accelarate?? Any ideas ? TIA

It was a trade PX deal ..It drives very well other than this fault and the best I could find regarding rot sills inner sills boot floor arches inner front wings etc all perfect and never been touched

Probably the accelerator pedal potentiometer...........

Get a local LR indy garage to check it

Well put a different potentiometer on it today its just the same ??? Any other suggestions? TIA

Disconnected the potentiometer where it joins the pump ,plugged it back and its now driven 50 odd miles with no problems?? Connections were clean though ..(baffled)

No !!! your rear N/S wheel is probably square
