Hi I Have a 1996 300tdi she has very little power when cold and no grunt up hills unless I keep the revs right up, also a little noisy,( even for a Land Rover). The vehicle has plenty of power once up to normal temp however and runs just great. Starts first time hot or cold, and fully serviced.

Any idea's ?

Thanks, Rab300tdi

Turbo worth a look

Check for collapsed hoses, waste gate restricted/stuck etc.

Could account for the lack of uphill power, but not experienced enough to know why you'd only experience this when the engine is cold

The 200 and 300 are pretty **** when the motor is stone cold.
Its worth seaching for pump tweak and just giving it a little bit of adjustment, notheing to much just a little as it certainly helps
I have noticed over the last couple of cold days how my 200 is as flat as a fart through town for the first mile or so.

Hi and thanks for advice, have now solved the problem. The bottom hose from the intercooler was leaking, ( defective hose clamp ) replaced clamp and wow what a difference, pulls well even from cold. Can only think that when engine was cold the hose would be hard and leaking but when warmed up, natural expansion was 'just' giving a tighter joint.
Thanks again
