Greetings,
300tdi Defender.

I am planning to replace the Cam belt in early April this year. While I am at it I would also like to replace the crankshaft and camshaft oil seals plus the front cover gasket (image attached) which lies between the rear of the front cover and the engine block.
What is required to replace this gasket? Does the entire front cover have to come off including the Camshaft pulley, FIP pulley etc? Tough job or manageable?

This is in an effort to rectify an oil leak from in that vicinity ... by the way.

Yes, the FIP and the Cam pulleys need to be removed along with the timing case cover and timing case itself..

It isn't a difficult job, the hard parts are:

Undoing the Crank Bolt
Pulling the Crank Pulley off
Pulling the Crank Sprocket off
Doing the Crank Bolt up again....its a tough one to get the final 90deg turn!

While your in there, do the P gasket (the one that sits behind the water pump, these are a weak point on the 300Tdi.

Thank you both for replying.

yes but dont undo the nut just the 3 bolts on fip pump ,youd need to remove sump and remove the oil pump suction pipe
I understand. The FIP pulley can come off but the FIP should remain "locked" in place with the timing pin. In relation to the Cam pulley I assume it can come off without having to worry as unlike the FIP it is actually aligned by marks. So once I line up the markings upon re-installation all should be good right?

@Saint.V8: I was considering the P-Gasket as well, so thanks for further confirming it.

Remember to remove the FIP pulley using the three small bolts and NOT the large 22mm spanner sized nut.
