Help anyone?

I have a 300Tdi which is a solid dependable 130k miles trooper but recently the auto box has started playing up - the car has full service history and I had it major serviced at a Landrover specialist inc. the auto gearbox oil and filter but I have a problem in that when I start it from cold overnight and select a gear nothing happens unless I rev the engine which results in a huge thump - Is this a major problem or a fluid / valve issue?

After the engine has warmed up and even on re-starting it seems to be ok (most times but not always though) the gearbox is fine once I have pulled away it is only when I select a gear from park or neutral that there is a problem.

I am reluctant to get rid of the car as it is so dependable and not worth a lot to anyone except me - it flies through mot's and I work in fields and on farmland so it is a great tool.

Anyone any ideas on this? before I end up spending money on exploration or gearbox removal and overhaul for no reason.

Please help.
