my mate has just filled his disco up with asda fuel and on his way home it begins seriously struggling when he puts his foot down and throwing blue black smoke out the exhaust
theres no mayonaise in the oil cap and no oil in the header tank wich rules out the head gasket thank god has anyone else got any suggestions for this predicament
any ideas more than welcome as he is verry worried about his pride n joy :confused::confused:

take the sediment bowl off and clean it out and maybe the filter replaced - then change to a decent fuel

I agree, sedimenter is the first thing to be removed and cleaned, there's been many a discussion about supermarket fuel on here that I won't drag up but lots of peeps won't touch it, me included.

cheers lads hes just cleared the sediment tank and filled it with shell diesel and it runs perfect again ive just been told by him hes gonna register with this forum coz ive just told him where i got the information from
thanks to the lightning response youve just got another member to the crowd ever so proud n gratefull to say im on this forum :D:D:D:D:D

Nice one mate:) I've been helped out so many times by folks on here that it's nice to be able to give a little back. even if it was very little:D:p.

I stuck a tenners worth of Unleaded in my Disco last year, just filled it up with Diesel and she never missed a beat, the only problem was that I had to spend the rest of her housekeeping on Diesel....She wasn't happy... :D

I put £45 of unleaded in my TD4 and drove to Yeovil from Maidstone and I was towing a trailer and it was not pulling right as it kept loosing power but I kept going which now looking back was daft. I them got as far back as Stonehenge before she conked out on me. Then some bugger crashed into me so neither the AA or my insurance would come out to me. The AA refused because I was now involved in an accident, the insurance because I was broken down!!!!!!!! So I had to call a recovery company and the wife.

The recovery company only sent a truck big enough for my trailer and by the time my wife got out to me the car restarted as the petrol and what diesel was left in there had separated. I was almost in the red by this time so filled up with DIESEL and it drove home. It was not until the next day that I realised the mistake when looking at receipts.

I kept the car for another 4 months and she was still fine when I sold her on.

Now I run my Disco on Bio I cant make that mistake again

put about a tenners worth of petrol in my disco one morning but when I realised went to the local supermarket and bought a few litres of veg oil (on offer at the time) to mix with the petrol and thin out and put about a tenners worth of diesel on top. ran fine with no problems.

I run on veg oil all summer when the weathers warmer, I mix it 50/50 with Diesel, I was getting it for 85p per litre. not a great saving admittedly but it all helps. It just takes a while emptying all those little bottles of oil in..:D

did similar with the 300tdi but after the lift pump went (possibly due to svo/derv mixtures) I started doing me sums.

avg cost for 50/50 or 70/30 (veg/derv) was about 95p-£1 per litre (unless svo on offer) and with extra filter changes etc it didnt work out as economical as id thought. Have gone back to using derv now and may possibly use veg from time to time but unless its bio/wvo it just doesnt make the savings anymore (and it stinks if your out laning with others ;) ).
