300 tdi or td5

I gave this question a lot of thought when I bought my Defender 300tdi. People I spoke to suggested that the TD5 wasn't as reliable due to the more complicated electronics and the 300tdi was easier to work on. It seems Land Rover only produced the TD5 to meet emission testing so many people see the TD5 as the defender that wasn't needed.

Having not owned a TD5 I am not speaking from experience and I'm sure other people on the forum will be more helpful but I don't regret buying the 300tdi, I have upgrade my instruments thought to the nicer and more "see in the dark" TD5 versions.

I've owned both this year (300tdi CSW and TD5 CSW)
Both are great Land Rovers. The TD5 is much more refined, quieter, and easier to use as a car. The TD5 for some reason was a lot less bouncy as well.
I've done 40,000 miles in my TD5 90 and 10,000 miles in the 110. I have not had any reliability issues.
However l did love the 300tdi. It's more of a traditional Land Rover and great fun to drive, if you can get a good one.
