300 tdi idle speed

Morning guys,

Hoping someone can help with the latest/last defender issue please.

Bit of history first...

Truck has sat idle for around 11 years now due to previous owner running on it everything but diesel I think.
I've changed all oils/filters, changed belt and re timed it too. But the tick over speed seems or should I say is high. Even tried adjusting the idle screw on the pump but it doesn't make a bit of difference. Almost as if it is on choke permanently, is there anything obvious I could've missed?

Previous owner may well have set it high to keep it reliable on the stuff he was running it and although you reduce on the out side of the pump the bits inside may be still gummed up. Try a good dose of injector cleaner and run it up to temp. [by driving it if you can ]
