300 tdi edc poor starting and hesitant

I'm not sure the best way to describe the symptoms here and this is my first post so please bear with me.

I have had my 300tdi auto with edc for about 6 months and it has always needed a little bit of throttle to start from cold. As well as that there is occasionally a bit of hesitancy at low throttle (or maybe more accurately low throttle increase). The check engine light flickers on and then the revs surge and engine runs fine.

Hard acceleration seems fine and engine seems responsive. The problem is mostly noticed town driving or on the motorway. Hitting an incline at steady speed can sometimes cause it too.

I've looked through the forums and it seems there are a number of possible causes but not sure where is best to start. We've tried disconnecting the air flow meter but no difference.

Is TPS a sensible next step?

So turns out it was indeed the TPS.

I understand some have the TPS on the injector pump, which sounds fairly easy to get to. Mine's on the top of the accelerator pedal and requires a fair bit of contortion to get at.

Once out we prised it open there were clear wear lines on the PCB so suspect we had a dead spot. Cleaned up the PCB and gently bent the contact brushes and with it back together the hesitation has gone completely and starting cold, while still not perfect, is much better.

Thats very interesting to know, I'm still trying to get to the bottom of my cold starting issues, but when my Disco starts its fine running.
