300 TDI and EDC

Silly question, but I need to make sure before I buy.

If a 300TDI engine has a flywheel, could it still have a EDC injector pump?

The two are in no way's connected

All have flywheel's

I've not checked but I'm under the impression that the edc pumps look quite different. Much squarer top.

But do verify this for yourself.

Does the Fuel pump have a black item on the top?
Post a photo of he engine if you can

I thought the EDC pumps were only fitted to automatic gearbox cars? So if it's got a flywheel and clutch, it can't be a EDC?

Thats correct. EDC was introduced with the 1996MY D1 to give an increase in power in Tdi automatic models

Only manuals have a flywheel and if its EDC equipped then its an automatic.

In Saffa land we had the last of the D1's with a manual box and edc - not many but I nearly bought one when I got mine in 2003

Thanks everybody, I'm buying 300TDI for a Series conversion, the seller has quite a few to chose from and I wanted to be sure I only look at non-EDC ones.
Knowing my luck I'll probably buy the ex-South African engine in the UK!
