3 Month S3 Rebuild

Hi,

Just been searching Landy stuff online. Found some people talking about rebuilding a LR S3. They all think that it will take much longer than 3 Months. I was planning to change the bulkhead on my S3, as well as painting the complete chassis, and possible fitting a new Autosparks loom.

My SWB S3 only came of the road about 1 month ago when its MOT ran out, and I dont think it will get another at the moment, only due to the rusty bulkhead.

I cant see why doing the above jobs is going to take much longer than 3 months?

My engine has just been rebuilt, and the gearbox/drive train is perfect, so i wont be touching them too much. (well other than replacing a block coolant drain tap, while the wings are off!)

What do you think?

depends what they mean by rebuild and also how many hours a week/day/month you spend on it. also depends on how much detail you go into i.e proper length bolt or will that one do type thing.

ah think the term " how long is a pîece of string"? is rather apt here

My mates been rebuilding his series one for about 3 years now!

Might have something to do with waiting for me to weld his bulkhead for the past year though!

Thats a complete nut and bolts job welding chassis, bulkhead.

Sourceing parts etc, still got at least another 6months before is finished tho.

ahh, well I intend to get it mechanically sound, so that it will last a gd long time before being stripped down again. The chassis is fine, so shouldn't be any problems with that (touch wood!)

Just wondering how long it will take to get the rear tub off?

Main tasks really are;

• remove seatbox
• remove wings
• remove hard top and windscreen
• disconnect all bulkhead stuff (hours and hours!)
• remove rear tub
• remove bulkhead (complete with dash in place)
• inspect, wirebush, prime 2x, black hammerite 2x, waxoyl 2x Chassis.

Then put everything back together again, with new galvanized nuts+bolts to aid repair in the future.

Im not too worried about using all the correct imperial sized bolts etc. But will try and use correct sizes without hundreds of washers etc!

Will be working on it everyday in the summer next year.

Think thats about all I can think of for now.

Remember to use high tensile bolts on the seat belt mounts
