Could be the FIP has been tweeked and overfueling up to when the turbo spins up

dial test indicator used to time some injection pumps ,presumably you used 2 pins and cam marks ,white smoke if stinks and hangs about is raw unburnt fuel ,can be bad timing ,inlet valve not opening ,no compression ,fauly injector etc

The engine was running like a Swiss watch before removal from the rangerover! I only hope it is not the timing,

pin in bottom of fly wheel housing and remove pump cover 3 screws from front of timing cover ,ensure rear pin is in at no1 tdc you can watch valves
I think this is where it has went wrong! I used the TD flywheel housing, which dosent have a slot at the bottom for the pin? What is ur suggestion to overcome this problem. Cheers

take front cover off and align the dot on crank and housing , id have left original on ,some flywheels have both slots it would be worth checking this for future if timings okay
