Far away from you!!
guys,

Just changed my 2.5na to a defender spec 300tdi.

Now my heating in the NA was fantastic I had to turn it down often and temp gauge would get up to 1/2 to 3/4 and not budge.

Now the new TDi is a bit different - it gets warm but not really hot.

I fitted a new rad, electric fan, thermostat and all that. I did t use britpart lol.

The temp gauge gets up to about 1/3rd of the gauge - warm air comes out the heater, but not near as hot as the NA.

Is this because the rad etc is new so everything is working properly?

The fan hasnt been needed at any point. The hoses get warm at the top and cold returning from the rad, the expansion bottle stays cold (the NA it got warm).

Is this what a 200tdi is like or is something amiss?

I am thinking about changing the thermostat in case it isn't closing totally or something and I have ordered an infra-red thermometer to check what temps the coolant actually gets to etc.

I would have thought the turbo engine would get hotter but is it the other way round?

What arrangement have you for the thermostat housing is it all 300tdi or a mix of series and tdi.
300tdi stat is usually 88 degrees so if stat working correctly should be warmer than N/A

I mixing and matching - it was an ex-mod 90 with the NA. I took that out and fitted the 200tdi defender engine. Including a new 88 degree stat.

All the coolant relate parts are stock 200tdi.

I wonder if the stat has worked once and then got stuck open

I thought the 200 were known for running cooler than needed.

My 200 doesnt really get too hot, If i run around in 2nd gear in low box up and down hills with no fan on it gets a little toasty but the temp gauge never goes about half (td5 dash in my 200)

She has blown steam a couple of times but like i say my fan i dont switch on much lol..

If the heater matrix is the same as before and its simply down to the new engine you have put in after the full rebuild, with a brand new rad ect id guess the system is running rather well.

Mine will burn your leg, no fans but rad is old but not blocked afaik.
From cold, I watch the temp gauge and it gets to just outside the red then suddenly drops to just over half way when (I assume) the stat opens.
Takes a few miles though to get a really hot heater. 110 sw not a short assed 90 as well.
Disco 200 TDI injun and rad and header tank.
