I got a 200tdi recon disco engine put in me td 90. 10,000 miles up and need to change the oil and filter for the first time.:)

Got four questions for you

1) What size socket do i need to get the sump nut off...its bloody bigger than owt i got.

2) Do i get a Discovery filter as listed something like 200tdi disco at Halfords? Or is it listed under year or something different...not been yet and dont know the year of the engine so if its under some other **** am fooked.

3) What Grade oil do i use...part synthetic? full synthetic? mineral? Which grade? Am more inclined on the slightly thicker oils so they dont just burn out the exhaust but understand there are limits.

4) How much oil do i need to do the job?

Any help on one or all of the above would br grateful as gonna crack it on friday...cheers

If you can be bothered to read it, at the very end it tells you all about which filter, which oil and quantity etc..

Thanks man so 6.0 - 6.85 litres. part synthetic oil....filter straight forwards.

Now just the sump nut size? its more than 24....do i change the brass washer or be ok?

change it..costs 5p..and i cant help with sumpnut size..just beg borrow steal from mates...or go to halfords...say i just want to check its right size b4 i buy...then you'll find out

Ave you got an adjustable or indeed a stilson? If so you are equipped for the task ahead.
For what it's worth the nut is either 27mm or 30mm I think.

could not budge it with stillies......**** this am gonna buy some more kit!

Have got a haynes manual for defender including the 200tdi....is the engine really any different to use that as a reference??

a 200 tdi is a 200tdi as far as servicing it is concerned mate

they put that engine in the defender so just look up defender 200tdi for the filter, my personal favourite brand for quality are Mann Hummel

the mann hummel part numbers are

C 14 179/2 - air filter

W 930/20 - oil filter

WK842/2 - fuel filter

10w-40 part or semi synthetic engine oil

change transmission oils if you haven't already done it, should be done every 24000 miles

hope this helps

10,000miles is a bit cruel on a recon engine that has 6,000 mile service intervals. Chances are it wont last 300,000 miles if you treat it like that.

The sump nut is somthing like 29mm from what i remember,As said the oil should be changed every 6k and i'd be checking the tappets on a recon after 10k just be be sure.
