While I was fiddling with my altenator yesterday, I noticed a puff of black smoke coming from under the turbo, every time I revved the engine.
The exhaust is leaking from the first joint

So, I need to take that joint apart, and re-make it with some jointing compound.

However, on further examination, there is nothing supporting the front section of the exhaust. The first support bracket is the one towards the rear of the transfer box - here -

There is a bracket welded to the downpipe, which looks like it should attach to the engine block somewhere. There is also a metal strap loosly attached to one of the bolt holes, but just dangling there and giving me an annoying rattle. This picture is taken from below.

Can anyone please tell me where and how that bracket should be attached to the engine block? Even better, can someone please take some piccies.

Thanks very much.

I have the same thing on my defender ,dindn't bother with working oot how to join up the brackets just pushed the loose one up and tightened the bolt so no more anoying rattle from there and the rest of the exhaust seems to be fine just doing its own thing.
