200tdi 5 speed conversion

Started the conversion of my lightweight, old engine and gearbox out, handbrake mechanism and battery tray all removed, ready for ne box to go in. I understand its necesary to remove one of the s3 cross members under the gearbox and replace with a defende x member for this conversion, can anyone tell me which one in the photo below needs removing? Is it the one furthest from the front? Both are welded so its gonna be an angle grinder job

Looks like i'll have to make a best guess and go for the furthest one from the front

not sure but i always thought a lightweight had a removable gearbox cross member

it is the rear one ,you use def chassis and box mounts you need to drill 3 x 8mm hole per side for mounts

I think thats true but mine has a galvanised coiler chassis so i suspect its not the original. Anyway took the plunge and removed the rearmost one - thanx for the confimation James. Guess next step is to put the 200tdi in so i know where to put the gearbox
