Can someone tell me? I know the Freelander 2 is obviouly different from the Mark 1 but I hope to be buying a Mark 2 today. It is advertised as a 2007 TD4 HSE, so is the engine(BMW) and running gear the same as my 2003 Serengeti or will it have the troublesome HALDEX(Whatever that is)?
thanks all

I just bought a 2008 Td4 and can't answer any of your questions, only know the navigation thingy is complicated until you read the instructions :D

No, its completely, totally, grossly different.

There is nothing the same between the cars - except the badge says 'Freelander'.

(I'm sure someone will tell me that the lock for the bonnet is the same or summat).

Yes, it will have a Haldex... if it ain't fallen off.

Thanks all for your enlightening comments. Obviously the comments I have received do not fall in favour of the Mark 2. I might look somewhere else. BMW/ TOYOTA etc etc

A 2007 Freelander 2 isn't a MK2, it's a completely different vehicle, which shares just 2 parts with the Freelander 1, those 2 parts are the bag holders in the boot, everything else is different.
The engine is from PSA/Ford and it's fabulous, the gearbox is from Asian, and the Haldex is from a subsidiary of Borg Warner. The PTU is a Ford part, as are many parts of the vehicle.
Don't get the FL1 facelift and FL2 mixed up, because they're not the same vehicles at all.
The FL2 is miles better to drive, more reliable, and much better in the event of a crash.

The FL2 would be more reliable than a BMW, and only a bit less reliable than a modern Toyota, which aren't as good as older models.
Nothing wrong with the FL2, except for the Haldex, and even those can be fixed.
