2005 Escape high-pitched noise problem?

Hi,
My 2005 Escape XLT/4WD makes a high-pitched annoying noise when driving
between 65-70mph. The noise seems to be coming from the engine area or
under the truck. The dealer said this may be normal, but isn't sure.
The dealer replaced rear axle components to try to get rid of the noise
or fix any problem. This seemed to get rid of the noise for 2 weeks,
but now it's recurring. Anyone else experiencing this type of noise?

I have a 2005 Escape Limited. Haven't heard anything like this but I
will look out for it.

Look at the bearing in the middle of the right front half shaft.

I havent seen them go bad on a escape but they go bad on a focus all the
time, just putt it up in the air and listen with a stethoscope around
65/70 mph

Also did you move or installed the roof rack different, I have heard
them make noise and you would swear it comes from under the car.

I rented two AWD Escapes in the last 3 months.
Each went about 1000 miles, much of it from 65-75 mph.
Neither made any noises beyond normal road noise.
BTW, they were nice vehicles that I would consider buying.

Thanks, I will try repositioning the roof rack. If the bearing is bad,
is there a risk of the truck being damaged if I still drive it? Also,
would replacing the bearing be a complicated procedure?

Don't take me wrong here, but why are you torturing yourself with
mechanical/bearing concerns on a brand new vehicle, drop it in the dealers
lap!

That's what I would say, also. The dealer can't loose. All they need
to do is to make Ford make good on it. The vehicle has a 36 month
bumper to bumper warranty. I just got an Escape Limited with body
damage on delivery. The factory basically painted over a damaged
bumper. The dealer's not going to loose, Ford will pick up the tab for
new bumper and a loaner for the day.

I found out that this isn't a bearing or wind noise problem. I took the
truck to multiple dealers who documented it as an unknown abnormality.
The dealer I bought the truck from denies poor workmanship on their
original repairs, and doesn't want to deal with the problem any further.
They claim that they need me to speak with a Ford engineer to further
assess the issue. Ford has been unhelpful and unresponsive. I'm looking
into lemon law and other legal issues. If anyone has any advice, please
let me know.

You would think they would be able to at least narrow it down.
Did they have any ideas?

The dealership tech suspected a problem with the Power Take-off Unit.
He replaced this, and other rear axle components. This seemed to work
for 2 weeks, then the problem started recurring.

Start the lemon law procedure and have Ford either buy the vehicle back OR
replace it with a like vehicle.

The problem is that this is not a Truck .....only FORD would make a
Front wheel drive SUV( silly useless Vehicle) with a rear axle as an
option....its a Car tryin' to act like a Truck.....its gonna make some
noises........its not happy with its life....its ashamed......lol

I used the lemon law to get oldsmobile to buy back
a 98 intrigue that ate steering racks.
Each state has different lemon law rules so find out what they are
for your state. In NJ the law was that you had to take the vehicle back for
the same problem 3 times within the first 18000 miles without successful
repair of the problem.
My advice is to keep good records. If you have a good paper trail,
you'll have a good chance of getting most of your money back.
When you start dealing with your regional ford rep, keep notes on your
phone calls and write letters whenever you can.
And it goes without saying, keep your repair receipts.
