Hoping for a bit of advice here, just bought a td5 on a 52 plate, drove it home about 80 miles last Saturday, everything seemed great, never moved it until today, as it was cold I swithched the heaters onto hi on both sides, to be greated, with cold air only, water in header tank is fine, levels are spot on, checked the control flaps they are working, matrix pipes coming into the car were just Luke warm, bleed the system to check for air lock, now I'm puzzled, temp gauge sitting at half way on a good run ! Any ideas ? Thanks

Possibly a faulty thermostat, if all else looks normal.

Well new thermostat fitted today & cooling system flushed out, still just the same - going try the water pump next & a phone call or visit will be made to the former owner !

Hi, no the 2 heater pipes are Luke warm chances are the heat off the engine is just warming them up !

Can't remember if it's been asked, but have you checked/bled the coolant circuit, as it sounds like the fluid is not being circulated.

Also, if you intend to buy another water pump make sure it is an OE one, Quinton Hazel. Ebay sells them for about £42 inc vat.

Dave , coolest circuit has been bleed / checked, dropped all the coolest out & refilled, it does not seem to be circulating ! Even when engine is up to normal temp the top hose from the rad is hot & under pressure - yet the heater pipes are still cool !

I take it you have bled the system as per the instructions in RAVE, as in the exansion tank has to be raised above the level of the engine?

a td5 shouldnt be difficult to fill and isnt prone for air lock if filled with bleed screw out and level checked the same way ,coolant in expansion tank doesnt mean engines full

Problem found ! I've just stripped out the water pump & the fins are not existant ! Pleased my thoughts seem to be right

It's all stripped down & new water pump is ready to go in , in the morning, worst part of stripping it down was removing the oil filter ! Regards Sean

How have you done it? Removed the whole mounting assembly or removed the rotor filter, to get access to the back of the pump cover?

Removed the aircon & the rotor filter housing unit, it's still a tight squeeze to get the pump out !

I've got the ACE and aircon pumps loose ready to set aside as I've been mucking around to change the pas pump, so I think I'll remove the pump mounting assembly and leave the rotor filter in place.

That way I can fit the new pump on the bench, then re-install into the car.
